dnata Puts $48 Million Into UAE Ground Equipment Fleet

dnata has committed AED 175 million ($48 million) since early 2026 to add more than 340 ground support assets at DXB and DWC, boosting towing capacity and AI-assisted safety.

Read-back

  1. dnata committed AED 175 million (~$48 million) to UAE ground support equipment since the beginning of 2026
  2. The investment covers more than 340 new assets at DXB and DWC, on top of ~2,800 motorized GSE already in the UAE
  3. dnata handled over 888,000 aircraft turnarounds and 3.2 million tonnes of cargo at 86 airports in FY 2025-26
  4. New loaders carry AI-enabled detection cameras beneath loading platforms to spot hazards during handling
  5. The company will display automated docking and 3D-printed GSE components at Airport Show 2026

dnata has committed AED 175 million — roughly $48 million — since the start of 2026 to expand and modernize its ground support equipment fleet in the United Arab Emirates, adding more than 340 new assets across Dubai International Airport (DXB) and Dubai World Central – Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC).

The investment targets three areas: safety technology, aircraft towing capability and operational resilience. It funds both fleet renewal and additional capacity at the two Dubai hubs, where dnata currently operates approximately 2,800 motorized GSE assets. The spend arrives as Dubai prepares for sustained aviation growth and an expanded operational role for DWC.

Why the timing matters

Ground equipment lead times drive the schedule. "Ground equipment has long procurement and delivery cycles, so fleet planning needs to stay several years ahead of demand," says Nabil Sultan Al Murr, group CEO of dnata.

That forward-planning logic connects the order to Dubai's long-term airport expansion plans. Equipment bought in 2026 must cover turnarounds at DXB and a DWC operation that is set to take on more traffic, with aircraft types and fleet composition factored into asset selection according to the company.

What the money buys

The 340-plus assets break down into several capability upgrades:

  • New aircraft loaders with enhanced working-at-height safety features
  • AI-enabled detection cameras mounted beneath loading platforms, designed to improve operator visibility and identify hazards during aircraft handling
  • Expanded pushback and towing capacity, improving equipment availability and flexibility during turnarounds

The camera systems address a specific operational risk: blind spots under loading platforms where ground crew and equipment interact with the aircraft fuselage. dnata says fleet planning accounts for changing operational requirements and aircraft types, with equipment chosen for safety, reliability and long-term performance.

"We are using this investment to strengthen the fundamentals of the operation: renewing assets at the right point in their lifecycle, adding capacity where we see sustained growth, and improving resilience in areas that are critical to aircraft turnaround," Al Murr says.

Technology beyond procurement

The equipment order sits alongside two technology programs dnata is advancing: automated aircraft docking systems and 3D printing for selected GSE components. The company says both initiatives aim to improve equipment operation, maintenance efficiency and fleet availability.

On-site additive manufacturing of GSE parts could shorten the maintenance loop for a fleet of this size — with 2,800 motorized assets in the UAE alone, component availability directly affects equipment dispatch rates during peak banks. dnata plans to showcase a selection of these technologies at Airport Show 2026.

The scale behind the spend

The UAE fleet is part of a larger global footprint. dnata operates approximately 4,700 motorized GSE assets worldwide and provides ground handling and cargo services at 86 airports. In the 2025-26 financial year, its teams handled more than 888,000 aircraft turnarounds and processed 3.2 million metric tons of cargo.

Those volumes frame the $48 million UAE commitment: at DXB, where turnaround density is among the highest globally, equipment availability constrains stand throughput as directly as staffing. The investment aligns dnata's equipment capacity and technology base with Dubai's airport expansion plans, with the new assets entering service ahead of the demand curve Al Murr describes.
