Delta Cargo Extends CargoWise Rollout in Push to Digitalize Booking Chain
Delta Cargo is extending its CargoWise rollout, deepening direct systems integration with forwarders as carriers race to replace manual booking workflows with structured data.
Read-back
- Delta Cargo is continuing the rollout of CargoWise across its cargo operation
- CargoWise is developed by WiseTech Global and serves as the core system for most large freight forwarders
- The rollout connects Delta directly to forwarders' booking and documentation workflows
- The program is an expansion of an existing integration effort, not an initial pilot

Delta Cargo has confirmed it is continuing the rollout of CargoWise across its cargo operation, extending a digitalization program that connects the airline directly to freight forwarders' own booking and documentation systems rather than forcing them through portal-by-portal manual entry.
The announcement, reported by Air Cargo News, positions Delta as one of the US carriers pushing hardest on systems-level integration with the forwarding community — a shift that trades short-term implementation cost for fewer re-keyed bookings, faster milestone visibility and lower error rates on documentation.
CargoWise, developed by technology supplier WiseTech Global, is the operating system that most large freight forwarders already run their businesses on. When an airline connects into it, a forwarder can book capacity, receive status updates and settle accounts without leaving their own environment. For Delta Cargo, each incremental connection in the rollout widens the share of tonnage that arrives as structured data rather than email attachments and phone calls.
Why does this matter operationally?
Digital integration in air cargo is not a branding exercise. It has direct capacity and cost consequences.
Every manually re-keyed booking is a chance to transpose a flight number, misstate a piece count or lose a shipment's status in transit. Industry studies have repeatedly pegged a meaningful share of cargo claims and service failures to documentation errors introduced when data moves between systems by hand. Connecting airline and forwarder platforms collapses those handoffs.
For a carrier the size of Delta — which moves freight through hubs including Atlanta and Detroit alongside its transatlantic and transpacific bellyhold network — even small gains in booking accuracy and milestone automation compound across millions of tonne-kilometres.
The rollout also matters for competition. Forwarders allocate freight to carriers that are easy to do business with digitally. Airlines that remain dependent on legacy channels effectively tax every shipment with handling friction.
What does the continued rollout signal?
The word "continues" in Delta's announcement is doing real work. This is not a first pilot or a proof of concept; it is an expansion of an integration program already in motion.
That distinction matters for how the industry should read it. Cargo integrations that survive past the pilot stage tend to widen rather than stall, because each connected workflow creates demand for the next one: booking first, then status milestones, then electronic documentation and settlement.
WiseTech Global, for its part, has spent years building out its airline connectivity layer, and carrier sign-ons have accelerated as forwarders consolidate around a small number of core platforms. Delta's continued rollout fits that pattern — the carrier aligning itself with the systems its customers already use, rather than asking them to adapt.
What comes next?
Delta Cargo has not published a completion date for the rollout or detailed which specific trade lanes and freight forwarder workflows will gain connectivity in the next phase. The trajectory, however, is clear: the carrier is treating digital connection to its forwarding customer base as ongoing infrastructure rather than a finished project, and further expansions of the CargoWise footprint are the logical next step.
